Little Bears get spotlight in Board Newsletter!

Congratualtions Grade 1 students. Your Aurasma "Our Community" Gallery Walk was featured in the June KPRDSB Newsletter!
Using Augmented Reality was really a step up to showcase your reasons for adding a new feature to our community and the people at the Board wanted to share that with everyone else! Here's the article and the video from the newsletter!

Teacher Spotlight: Augmented Reality at Murray Centennial

June 2015

Take 60 grade one students, choose a strand of the new Social Studies curriculum, collaborate with the Teacher Librarian in the lab so you can use a tech tool to show student learning and what do you get?
An Aurasma “Our Community” Social Studies Gallery Walk at Murray Centennial PS.
Aurasma is a 3D presentation tool that allows you to insert photos and videos into a trigger image. When you scan that image with the Aurasma app, the photos and videos come to life and you can see and watch everything. It was pretty mind-blowing for the grade one’s when they first saw themselves on the iPads!
The students had to design a “human-made or physical feature for Quinte West and be able to defend why they thought their feature would be of benefit to the community.”
In the classrooms, the students studied features of Quinte West and explored their understanding of our community. Next they figured out what and where they wanted their feature to be, and drew a picture of it. In the lab, the students recorded a video stating where, why and what they wanted to add to Quinte West then created their “Aura” in Aurasma Studio with the help of Lab Buddies.
Invitations were sent out to our Director, Superintendent, the Mayor, Councillors of Quinte West, the Quinte West Public Library, and our School Trustee. Along with parents and families our guests were provided with instructions to pre-download the Aura app on their devices!
The day of the Gallery Walk the students shone, informing guests why there should be a Toronto airport in QW, a zipline from the YMCA to Murray, a coffee shop in the public library, a fishing boat school, and a doggie grooming hotel by the dog park just to name a few!
